Grand Jury Indicts Man for Murdering Cousin

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – An Orange County grand jury formally indicted Jamal Johnson, 25, for First Degree Felony Murder and Accessory to First Degree Murder.

On February 17, 2023, Redd Nelson, 21, was walking in the 1300 block of South Highland Avenue in Apopka when a vehicle approached him. The victim walked up to the passenger’s side of the vehicle and was shot multiple times before the driver sped off. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office obtained surveillance video near the scene, identified the victim’s cousin, Johnson, as the suspect, and arrested him.

On Wednesday (July 31), the State presented sufficient evidence to a grand jury to secure an indictment against Johnson for First Degree Felony Murder and Accessory to First Degree Murder.

Please check the Orange County Clerk of Court’s website for the latest updates on court hearings.

We are unable to provide additional information about the case at this time.

An indictment is merely an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
