Man Indicted for the Murder of Two Women

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – An Orange County grand jury formally indicted Carlos Baez Nieves, 25, on two counts of First Degree Murder, two counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence in a Capital Proceeding and one count of Driving with a Suspended License.

On March 13, 2024, the body of a woman was found near the intersection of Trevarthon Road and Harrell Road in Orange County. An autopsy revealed signs of external neck trauma consistent with strangulation. Five weeks later, on April 17, another woman’s body was found at the same location. The second victim also suffered acute trauma to the neck consistent with strangulation.

Following an investigation conducted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Baez Nieves was identified as the primary suspect in both homicides. On April 26, 2024, he was arrested on two counts of First Degree Murder.

On Wednesday (June 26), the State of Florida presented sufficient evidence to a grand jury to secure indictments against Baez Nieves for two counts of First Degree Murder, two counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence in a Capital Proceeding, and one count of Driving with a Suspended License.

Please check the Orange County Clerk of Court’s website for the latest updates on court hearings.

We are unable to provide additional information about the case at this time.

An indictment is merely an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
