ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – An Orange County jury found Lyndell Demps, 52, guilty of Home Invasion Robbery, Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon and three counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon after he attacked a family in a home in Orlando.

On June 15, 2023, Orlando Police responded to a home invasion in the 5000 block of Mallard Pond Road. A male victim sustained several facial and hand injuries after an unidentified person entered the home and demanded money from him, his wife and his mother-in-law. Police obtained surveillance video from outside and inside the home that showed Demps repeatedly attacking the man with a long-handled branch cutter. The defendant is also seen on video going inside the home and confronting the other two victims. He is shown threatening and swinging the branch cutter at them, taking items from them and preventing them from calling 911.

Later that evening, Orange County sheriff’s deputies arrested Demps after he broke into a daycare. Deputies identified him because he matched the suspect description provided in the home invasion case. One of the victims also positively identified Demps from a photo lineup. During an interview with law enforcement at the jail, the defendant said he was high on drugs and needed money.

The surveillance video of Demps attacking the victims was used during the trial. The three victims testified against Demps and described the attack in detail including the injuries the male victim sustained.

Following a three-day trial, a jury found Demps guilty on all counts. Demps has an extensive criminal history. This crime was committed seven months after his release from prison after serving nearly 26 years for an attempted carjacking in 1996. He is categorized as a Habitual Felony Offender, a Habitual Violent Felony Offender and a Prison Release Re-offender. A pre-sentence investigation is underway to determine an appropriate sentence. Demps’ sentencing is set for June and he potentially faces life in prison.
