Avery Williams Sentenced to 30 Years for Attempting to Shoot at Deputies

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla –On Thursday, Avery Williams was sentenced to 30 years in the Florida Department of Corrections for attempting to shoot at two Orange County sheriff’s deputies in December 2021 and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The judge considered multiple factors before handing down the sentence, including Mr. Williams being a habitual violent felony offender and him committing this offense within three years of being released from prison for another crime.

Mr. Williams has a lengthy criminal history dating back 22 years which includes convictions for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and resisting an officer with violence.

State Attorney Bain said, “Violent offenders who repeatedly harm the public should not be allowed free to continue inflicting pain on our community. The sentencing in this case guarantees our community and law enforcement are safe from this repeat violent offender for the next 30 years.”

In a September trial, Williams was found guilty of two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer with a Firearm. In two separate instances, he pointed a gun at a deputy but was unable to fire due to a gun malfunction.
