Conviction Integrity

The Ninth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office Conviction Integrity Unit (CIU) is dedicated to conducting extrajudicial, fact-based reviews of secured convictions in Orange and Osceola counties to investigate plausible allegations of actual innocence. The mission of the CIU is to promote public accountability and credibility.

The CIU conducts an initial screening process to identify plausible claims of innocence on behalf of convicted defendants. For claims that merit review, the CIU then conducts more detailed investigations of those claims. The CIU consists of dedicated attorneys, investigators and support staff who will diligently review and investigate plausible claims of innocence.

As we are diligently working through a backlog of cases after our restructuring, we ask for your continued support and patience. An application review can take as long as three months or more to complete. We will contact you at your preferred method of contact once we have made our decision regarding your application.
